About the Cash for Clunkers Program
In an effort to retire older trucks, a limited amount of government funds are available as rebates for truck owners to upgrade their trucks that service Chatham County, Georgia. These special funds are supplied by U.S. EPA through the Diesel Emission Reduction Act.
To qualify for a rebate, the program requires a trade-in of a 2011 and older model-year semi-truck that was not factory equipped with DEF and has made 150 pick-ups and/or drop-offs within an eight-mile radius of the Georgia Port Authority’s Garden City Terminal. Additionally, the trade-in truck must be operational. Interested applicants can apply for participation with Meadowbrook Leasing, which is the Program’s Lender.
Once approved, applicants can trade in their qualifying truck then replace it with a 2015 or newer model year semi-truck. The recipient will receive up to $45,000 for reducing the purchase price of the newer truck. The source of the funds is a US EPA grant that is 50% of the total newer truck sales price, up to $45,000.
Participants are required to make 150 pick-ups and/or drop-offs within an eight-mile radius of the Georgia Port Authority for the term of the financing contract.
